Mr. Spencer Nance

Director of Athletic Bands

Spencer is in his first year as the Director of Athletic Bands at Limestone University where he directs the Marching Band, Pep Band and Jazz Ensemble, and assists with Wind Ensemble. Prior to his appointment as the Director of Athletic Bands, he spent one year at Limestone as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands.

Spencer is a native of Spartanburg, SC where he attended Spartanburg High School. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Furman University in 2012 and his master's degree in trumpet performance from the University of Alabama in 2014. Upon graduating from the University of Alabama, he returned to South Carolina and began teaching band. He has taught at Wallace Elementary Middle School, Johnakin Middle School, and most recently Oakbrook Preparatory School.

He has recently gotten several of his concert band compositions published with Warming Sun Music. As a performer

Spencer has played with the Huntsville (AL) Symphony, Florence Symphony, Poinsett Wind Symphony, Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble, Hot Horns, as well as numerous other chamber and large ensembles.

​He currently resides in Spartanburg with his wife, Kelsey and their two dogs, Bentley and Bear.

Mr. James Robinson, II

Assistant Director of Athletic Bands

James Robinson, II received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Limestone University in Gaffney, South Carolina, where he currently serves as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands and Instrumental Music.

 

Previously, he taught 2nd through 5th grade general music, including an all-age honor choir, handbell ensemble, and the world-percussion club, in Gaston County North Carolina. In addition to being voted the 2019-2020 “New Teacher of the Year” at Belmont Central Elementary School in Belmont, North Carolina, he was also selected to be the Gaston County Schools state representative for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching’s new teacher of the year award.  

 

He is the inaugural recipient of the Limestone University Early Career Educator Impact Award and the Department of Music Alumni Achievement Award for contributions to both music and K-12 education. Robinson is a member of the National Association of Music Educators, Percussive Arts Society, the National Band Association, an Educational Endorser for Salyers Percussion, and a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
